According to PWinsider, Ravishing Rick Rude has been “confirmed” for the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2017 in a “non-headliner” position. WWE has not officially confirmed Rude as an inductee, but the season is upon us, so rumors and spoilers are here!
Rick Rude is best known for his stints in the WWF and WCW in the late eighties, early 90s and late 90s. He passed away from a heart attack in 1999, while training for a return to the ring. Rude, a career heel, was notorious for his 70s porno mustache, robes, chiseled chest and famous antagonizing promo.
After a career ending injury in 1993, Rude retired moving into alternate roles in wrestling including a very unique commentator slot with ECW, and as a founding (and forgotten) member of Degeneration X. His biggest Monday Night War statement happened when he (who had no official contract with WWE) appeared on both WWF Raw and WCW Nitro in the same night. Bret Hart credits Rude with leaving WWF in protest of the Montreal Screwjob.
Rick Rude has been one of the many deceased talents who fans have “been waiting for”. This would be a welcome addition.
Here’s hoping the rumor is true!
Rude would also be the first of my predictive series “Future Hall of Famers” to make it into the Hall officially.
What do you think?
