The Godfather is joining the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2016
No No No NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
WWE continues their terrible Hall of Fame choices (see 2015’s Rikishi and Bushwhackers) in 2016 with the inclusion of The Godfather. Now, that’s not to say the character of the Godfather isn’t fun but he is also really offensive in the modern world and exactly the opposite of the image that WWE showcases regularly. This is the newest Hall of Famer.
Gotta love sexism and degradation of women! Go WWE!
On top of all that junk, the Godfather simply isn’t anything more than a silly character. Yes, Charles Wright did hold the IC title for some reason for like a month and hold the Tag Team title as the Goodfather (see what they did there). Neither title run was spectacular and both only happened because the Attitude Era did more title changes than ever before or since.
Bad induction. Stupid move. Ugh.
(One positive- it has been announced that the APA will induct the Godfather. At least that leaves JBL off the list of inductees this year. Here’s hoping for Stan Hansen.
I will do a full breakdown of this terrible idea upcoming!
Yes, I agree, this is a lame choice on a lot of levels. But we have also have James Dudley and Hacksaw Duggan in the hall, so the bar is mighty low to get in. Someone suggested to me on Twitter that it would have made more sense to induct Charles Wright in, which would have at least given him more weight as a nominee because you could have included the characters of the Godfather, Papa Shango, and Kama.
This is beyond terrible. Maybe the worst non-celebrity pick ever. I can’t even think of a good match, rivalry or the Godfather was a part of. He was just a mildly amusing, somewhat offensive, adolescent Russo comedy act. It’s staggering how bad this pick is. I guess for the WWE picking deserving HOF inductees “ain’t easy”
Honestly, this opens the floodgates for popular flash-in-the-pan midcard acts between 98-99. Expect guys like D’lo Brown, Val Venis, Al Snow and Hardcore Holly going in at some point.
