WWE Hall of Fame 2013 UPDATE!: Inductors, Celebrity Inductees, Rumors, & More!

The WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2013 is shaping up to be one of the best classes in history. Currently, it is rivaling 2005 (Hogan, Piper, Sheik, Orndorff) and 2004 (Ventura, Heenan, JYD, Superstar Graham) for the best class in the history of the WWE Hall of Fame. As of Feb 21, 2013, the class includes Mick Foley, Trish Stratus, Bob Backlund and Bruno Sammartino. Two to three more will probably be added in the next month.

But who will induct them? Lets take a look at some possible inductors for the 2013 Class.

Mick Foley

The Hardcore Icon has ties to many different wrestlers throughout the Attitude Era and beyond. If The Rock, Steve Austin or even HHH did the honors, no one would complain. Still there are better choices.

Terry Funk

The Hardcore Icon should be inducted by the Original Hardcore Icon, Terry Funk. Rumors have surfaced that Funk has backed out of  involvement in a indepedent wrestling event for Wrestlemania weekend. This has caused rumors that Funk is confirmed as the inductor. Foley himself also “picked” Funk on twitter, which raises his likelihood.

Jim Ross

Jim Ross was the man who hired Mick Foley and believed in him. He also gave Foley’s favorite sports call ever

Good God Almighty! He is broken in half!

Ross will give a better speech but Funk is the better choice.

Chances of Terry Funk 7 out of 10

Chances of Jim Ross 3 out of 10

Bob Backlund

Bob Backlund has had many matches with many different people. However, he has very few wrestlers whom he is attached to. His runs with Superstar Graham, Iron Sheik were well known. Arnold Skaaland would be the best choice, but he’s dead. That leaves only one man.

Bret Hart

Bob Backlund’s only memorable feud in his second run was against Bret Hart. Hart was the man who was able to position “goody goody” Backlund as a heel. And their matches were actually pretty solid and entertaining. When two men who can wrestler get in the ring together, magic can happen. This happened here, and frankly, Hart is the only one of Backlund’s nemesis that anyone in modern WWE would know. Plus the name regonition, Hart is almost a lock

Chances of Bret Hart: 9 out of 10

Trish Status

No name has been rumored for Trish Status’s inductor, but only one name actually makes sense

Lita and Trish were Women’s Wrestling in the WWF/WWE from about 2000-2006. This time was an actual Renissance for women’s wrestling. Yes, there were bra and panties matches, but there was also actual feuds and actually wrestling. Whether Lita or Trish were face or heel, their interactions and matches were always the best! This needs to and will happen

Chances of Lita: 8 out of 10

Bruno Sammartino

Bruno Sammartino was champion for 11 years in total. He fought hundreds of different oponents during his time as champion and even after up until his retirement. In an interview, Bruno Sammartino said that the WWE asked to be able to get him someone big as compared to allowing Sammartino to pick his inductor. Bruno has listed Ivan Koloff, Dominic Denucci and Larry Zbyszko as his possible choices. But WWE Has someone else in mind. A Big someone.

Arnold Schwarzenegger

Arnold and Bruno go way back. They have been friends for almost 40 years. They worked out together in the early 1970s and Bruno even judged Arnold’s Mr. Olympia contest (which Arnold won) . WWE loves to bring in celebrity inductors. It adds the fanfare and media attention which Vince and Co. crave. Whether it was Stallone inducting Hogan, Shatner inducting Lawler or Boggs inducting Hennig, WWE prefers to have the celebrity involvement. If WWE can get him, this is a lock.

Chances of Arnold: 7 out of 10

In the majority of classes, the WWE Hall of Fame has a celebrity inductee. Whether or not this is good (its not), it is going to happen. Now, certain classes did not have the celebrity attached to it. 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2009 has no celebrity inductee. Most of these still had celebrity involvement (Stallone in 2005, Shatner& Boggs in 2007, Rock in 2008, and none in 2009) When Arnold was rumored to be inducting Bruno, I hoped for a celebrity-less class of 2013. However, this looks to be unlikely.

This morning, reports have come out that Billionaire Donald Trump was supposed to be announced for the 2013 WWE Hall of Fame this past Monday. This is actually the first time Trump has been mentioned this Hall of Fame season. Most rumors had been circling around Cyndi Lauper as the likely inductee. Lets take a l0ok at Donald Trump and WWE.

Donald Trump is one of only a handful of celebrities who have semi-long term interactions with the WWE. In fact, he has more appearances that most of the current celebrity inductees combined. Wrestlemania 4 and 5 took place at his Trump Plaza in Atlantic City, NJ and he was heavily involved in the Battle of the Billionaires for Wrestlemania 23. He also “owned” Raw for one week in 2009.

For a celebrity, that is alot of involvement. Trump is also Vince McMahon’s friend. He is everything that Vince wishes he could be. A billionaire who is a celebrity and can get media attention for anything he does or says. Vince wishes he was so lucky. Don’t believe me? Look at Vince’s face during his Hollywood Walk of Fame Star unveiling.

You’re damn right I got a star.

Now, I have been on record on this blog stating that the Celebrity Wing is unecessary and stupid. It puts people in the Hall for being involved for short periods of time because Vince loves celebrities and the idea of CELEBRITY. Its is the basis of sports entertainment. Mainsteam attention is a neccessity becuase of Vince.

Therefore, although Donald is a jackass and a right wing conspiracy nut, he has done things for WWE. He also likes WWE, and is related to NY/NJ. This will probably happen.

Bruno, Foley, Backlund and Trish makes four. If the Donald is added, then that is five. Normally speaking, the classes have-7 inductees. (2012 was 6, 2004 was 11). If WWE keeps up 7 inductees, then two more wrestlers or tag teams will be announced. There are a few rumored names.

It is rumored that WWE approached Kamala back in early January but nothing was confirmed either way. James “Kamala” Harris has been very out spoken about how the WWE screwed him on payments throughout his three main event runs with the organization. Plus he is a double amputee, which perhaps could make transportation very difficult.

Rumors surfaced this week that Kamala may  be replaced as a 2013 inductee. This may show that he did indeed decline (Adding him to a small list of Backlund, Sammartino and Honky Tonk Man) Further proof of this is shown on the WrestleCon website

Kamala is listed as one of the attending legends for the Wrestlecon event during Wrestlemania weekend. WWE normally does not allow anyone who will appear on their programming to appear at any other event. It seems as if Kamala is out. And replaced, potentially be this man

Chances of induction 3 out of 10

Ivan Koloff

This would be a great and necessary addition to the WWE Hall of Fame. I had mentioned earlier this month, that if Bruno went in, Koloff would be right behind him. These two are very close friends and Koloff might be brought in as another show of respect to Sammartino.

Still Koloff deserves the honor. He is the man who was hand picked to cleanly go over Sammartino in 1971 for the WWWF championship. He was the first man to do this and potentially one of the last in history (until the 1980s when Bruno lost alot)

Plus NYC/MSG is important to him as well. This would be a great choice.

Chances of induction 8 out of 10

Bam Bam Bigelow

Every year (except 2005, the WWE Hall of Fame includes one deceased wrestler. Early reports at the beginning of the year said that Bam Bam was reported Triple H’s choice in the packet he submitted with all the names. Bam Bam  was born and lived in NJ, making him an obvious and awesome inductee choice for the 2013 Class. Theoretically, the Class will not have eight inductees. I would prefer to have Koloff and Bam Bam be the last two, making this class solid all around. Go Bam Bam

Chances of induction 6 out 10

Wrestlemania 30 in New Orleans

With Wrestlemania 30 officially announced for New Orleans, Louisiana, the question for me is what does this mean for the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2014. Mid-South was the main organization down there and WWE is known to embrace an area they don’t go to much by including performers important to that area. (Backlund and Sammartino in NYC, etc)

Most heavy hitters in Mid-South are already in the WWE Hall of Fame. Bill Watts, Junkyard Dog, Ted Dibiase and Ernie Ladd already have their rings. But there are a few more names which could be included in the 2014 class. The Fabulous Freebirds, Magnum TA, and Hacksaw (Natural) Butch Reed all had great effect on that area during its heyday. Also, we tend to forget that Jake the Snake Roberts got his real start in Mid-South as an original member of the Legion of Doom. (King Kong Bundy to0) If Jake can keep sober, it may be his year in 2014.

Check back for future updates, as well as current, future and never going to be WWE Hall of Famers, updated weekly!
